Shortly before the 2020 Portland Classic, Cambia Health Solutions’ Mark Ganz announced he will be retiring from the CEO position he has held for the past 18 years. As our tournament looks ahead to our 50th anniversary celebration, Mark Ganz is the main reason the event got to this milestone.
In 2012 when Safeway announced they were ending their 17-year relationship with the tournament as title sponsor, opting instead to focus on a men’s tournament, the event was in serious jeopardy of never happening again. At that pivotal moment, Mark Ganz and Cambia Health Solutions stepped in to preserve the legacy.
Mark saw the importance of a women’s tournament continuing in the Portland community and the inspirational role models the LPGA players were for the next generation of golfers. As a passionate advocate for the LPGA, he leveraged influence in the Portland market to rally support for the event and save the Portland Classic.
While Mark’s departure is bittersweet for many, our tournament remains in his future plans. Mark will continue to serve on the Tournament Golf Foundation’s Board of Directors while he looks ahead to the next chapter in his life.
From all of us at the Cambia Portland Classic, we congratulate Mark on his retirement and look forward to the future together.
